photo project - town of hartland
This past summer Cole and I took on what was to be our largest project for the year — working with Websolutions.ca based here in Fredericton (HQ in Bathurst), we were commissioned to cover the still photography and drone photography for the town of Hartland rebranding project.
This was also our first project working with the team at Websolutions — so firstly I’ll say Cheers to Josh and everyone on his team over there, they’re all excellent at what they do and I have to give a personal thanks to Chloe for throwing our name in the hat for this project to begin with. We were lucky to land this one and I’m super happy about how it turned out.
This one took a while to plan - several Google video meets discussing the overall plan and several iterations of a massive spreadsheet shot list. Meetings covered issues beyond photography even, such as the new logo design, which was all incredibly useful just to listen to even though that was out of our hands. I did find (and just do in general) that being involved with these discussions for projects of this scope really helps us when we’re pushing camera buttons — it gives us a wider view of what the entire project is and where our work fits into it. All too often someone will approach us and say “Hey, we need these things photographed…” without really giving any indication of why they need to be done, which in my opinion, matters enormously.
We have to give a shoutout to Michelle in Hartland who handled everything on the towns end — I’m not sure if I’ve ever worked with anyone better at logistically planning something of this scope. She was absolutely awesome in the months of planning (answering my long list of concerns) and even more so on the days of shooting, guiding us around town, and — perhaps more importantly — feeding us. She did however get us caught in a massive downpour of rain while shooting a waterfall, but we won’t hold that against her.
We planned for a full three days of shooting — which technically turned into four. Weather was a concern for me once we were nearing shoot time, so Cole and I decided to take a free day to drive up to Hartland to scout a few locations and if we could, nail down some shots to make the bulk of the project a bit less stressful — which paid off. During our main 3 day stay, we encountered a fair amount of rain and a lot of overcast skies, so fortunately we were able to get a few of our shots done with that perfect blue sky we all aim for.
This project covered everything though - with the exception of posed portraits — but everything from building interiors, exteriors, landscapes, fishing on the river, cycling, local industry, golfing, a bit of food & drink, and more. On top of everything we shot from the ground, we also had to cover the majority of items by drone as well — with a focus on a lot of the local landscape - including but not limited to, the worlds Longest Covered Bridge.
Anyway I could go on about this — but I’ll leave it there with a (smallish) gallery of some of the images we captured.
Thanks for reading, if you got this far.
